So after a long period of time I finally got round to buying and installing an ep3 airbag module.
I wanted/needed to do this as the resistors I installed to fool the lack of side airbags kept on triggering the airbag light on the dash..
I'm pretty sure it also had to do something with the side crash sensors that I relocated.
Anyway, I needed to dismiss the whole side airbag problem, so I opted for the ep3 airbag control module, which didn't have them from factory.
I wasn't sure if it would even be possible to swap a control module from an ep3, since I didn't have the exact wiring diagrams at my disposal.
I just went with my hunch, that it must fit & with visual inspection of the differences between an ep1/2 srs control module and the one for the ep3.
The side airbags complete with side impact sensors enter the control module at just one plug, that after swapping the control modules has been left unplugged.
First I thought it would be a straight swap with no modifications, but the ep3 has a tiny bit different main wiring plug, which can be modified with a stanley knife to fit quite easily.
Other than that, there is nothing to do except remove the 3 bolts that secure the srs control module to the car an put the new one in.
I include two pictures of the stock ep1/2 airbag module.
The ep3 module ditches the big middle plug, which is for the side airbags as mentioned earlier.
