hey, ive got a 2003 Type R with 57,000 on the clock, but recently (last 3 months or so) if i change up or down into 3rd (ie 0ver 6000rpm) i get a 'crunch' noise?? dont think its the clutch as it only happens in third? not been to a garage yet, and now that im aware of it, i can change 'gently' to avoid it, but i know this aint right and certainly spoils driving! any ideas? it sounds expensive???

Yeah usualy the sycro goes
U could try adding Molyslip to to the box, mite take it away for a wee while.
I done this when i had my escort, 2nd and third would crunch, so i added a Molyslip to the box and it took it away, till i blew the box up 6 months later

Sorry to bump this as it is starting to get old but have you changed your transmission fluid?
I know our 5 speeds are notorious for 3rd gear grinds but if are serviced on a regular basis with honda manual transmission fluid it wont do it. Too many people neglect their transmission but Honda calls for a fluid change every 50-60 thousand miles. Since I run mine hard tho I change it every 20k miles.

Mine done this, then 1st gear started to do it aswell. Its the clutch, its a self adjuster on the EP3, so you dont know the clutch is pumped untill it doesnt work. http://epcivic.com/f...tyle_emoticons/default/icon_confused.gif You dont get it slipping like an old skool cable clutch.
