OEM tyre size is 205/45/17.
Alot of people put on 215/40/17 when replacing their tyres, they are cheaper usually.
There is no BEST, you won't notice any performance difference between these sizes. 215/40 have lower profile, so road noise will be louder maybe and ride will be rougher.
Best advice is go for whatever meets your budget best.

I'm asking the same question on other forums
I was planning on putting on 215/45/17 but the 40's should be nicer to look at...
I can't decide Is there that much difference between 40 and 45 in comfort?

I had 205/40/17 on my old EP3 wheels, grip level was very good due to low profile but the ride was bumpy as hell...
Im running 215/45/17 on my DC5 wheels, ride confort has improved allot but in terms of grip, i dont feel the same compared with the 205/40/17...
Like DC said, go for somthing that meets your budget...
I would personally recommend the 215/40/17 which im hoping to get for my new wheels!
Wider tyre for extra grip but also low profile to handle that grip aswell...

You can compensate for the added rubber thickness with pressure adjustments.

If you don't buy the T1R's on Camskill right now, you're mad. 215/40/17's at £66 per tyre. Crazy. I'm thinking about getting them at that price and I don't even need them!

215/45R17 is my opinion, better whit OEM chassis so speed meter won't lie so much, whit 50 profile tire speed meter don't lie at all. and car looks nice when tire fill up.
When you have somekind of lowering 215/40R17 is better.
