Hi, Guys

Im looking at buying a 2002 Honda Civic Sport with skirts and stuff already on its got 96,000 miles and she wants £2400 for it.

Now what sort of things should I look for/ask when i go look at it?

I know about -

Serivce
Tax
MOT
Service History
HPI Check

Also would you say £2400 is too much with the miles on it?

if the price is that low there may be other problems with it, it's deffo the lowest priced ep i've ever seen.

if u worked her down to say 2 then that would be a fair price i would say?

an HPI check is worthless unless it was done on that very day!
check condition of wheels tyres...or whether car pulls to one side during normal driving on a flat road
under bonnet...and obvious leaks or things that dont look right
at that sort of miles u want something with FSH...yeah Hondas generally last forever...but only if theyre maintained properly
with those miles i wouldnt expect the car to be an absolute stunner...check all panel gaps are even on both sides too n that theres no dodgy looking paint!

the outside looks good from the photos, but that engine bay is a wreck, rust everywhere  i recommend taking a mechanic with you to view it, there must be a reason why its selling so cheap apart from the milage.

general car buying rule

you pay for what you get

i used to work for (in other words i sold cars for them (Arnold Clark incase anyone cares n fancies a laugh)) Ford/SEAT...you can get 2 identical spec'd cars come in...but get differences of £2000 in the valuations

all depends on the quality/condition of the car

if your after a quality car then pay for one and up your budget slightly

if you don't mind me asking whats your budget for an ep2? £3000 could get you a really decent one thats pre-facelift, so about 2002-2004 reg. with a lower milage than that one.

Sometimes our gearboxes start goin at 40,000, So ive heard so check the gear box ie: Is it hard to get any of the gears. Also check the clutch and the bite level.

Basically make sure the clutch or gearbox isnt dodgy or ul end up getting a nu gearbox at around £800 or a new clutch at around £100.
