Is it just the turbo thats crap? Surely that could be changed/upgraded to be more reliable/gain more power

Im reading up on that...
It appears the standard turbo is huge... so if mine goes pop, Im going to get a smaller one, make it spool up quicker.

Having been through the list of engines with the same turbo, the honda's the smallest engine with it, bmw use 2 of them on a 4 litre diesel ..

to be fare the 1.7 engine is fairly reliable, and to fix the turbo problem, the turbo from the 3.1 izusu trooper is a very popular upgrade with the vauxhall lads.

has anyone upgraded there turbo's on any EP4's? just to see how it changed the reliability, I know the 1.7 is an agricultural old thing, and people get some massive gains out of the vauxhall's that have the 4EE2 or whichever version code theres is
