Went on a recent mainly motorway drive for a works outing sharing our own cars in convoy and as the lead car was a matiz 1.0 lt (they had the directions) we was only doing between 60-70mph however I was slowly creeping towards 50mpg, so turned off the A/C to break the magic 50mpg mark and went on to almost 53 mpg (couldn't really take a pic while driving) but when I got back I managed to take one, it dropped back a bit as we hit traffic later on, but still 49.2 mpg over 130 miles is v good ps and thats with an ind kit, manifold and perf exhaust on too!

How is the MPG worked out on the computer...would it take the manifold, exhaust etc into consideration.. or does it just it work out from one common formula??

Probably just takes the ammount of miles driven and the ammount of fuel used. But flowmeters are not exactly accurate so the value may be out either way by a few mpg. Thats a nice result I get about 43 on the way to work and you do have to slow down/speed fairly often. EP2 ftw

2-3mins of driving to work is going to be pretty bad for the fuel economy. The engine won't be up to full temperature, it takes a minute or so for the engine to pump oil fully around all the parts of the engine. Etc.

Don't forget you need to keep re-setting your trip/mpg computer to zero when you go a long drive as it takes ages for the mpg to slowly creep up.
I got 50+ mpg doing around 60 ish mph for about 50 odd miles of motorway driving, it helps if you don't have to keep braking and accelerating ie if the motorway is quiet and you can keep a constant speed, one thing to be said for those dammed temp 50mph stretches is it's great for economy!
However i normally cruise between 75-85 mph when I go on a long motorway drive plus the odd short blast and get around 41-43 mpg.
You also loose a bit if you have the A/C on.

I somehow managed 62.3 (what the display was telling me) in mine the other night on a 14 mile journey home from the nearest "big" town, that was sitting aroung the 50-55mph mark. Majority of the road is flat level, with some little uphill's and some slight downhills. Mines usually sits around 35 though as i do a fair amount of town driving.

You tend to find the minute you reset it leaving the petrol station it jumps up to 500's then rapidly drops within minutes...
